Responding to Students with Career Concerns
Responding to Career Concerns of the Undecided Student
Being undecided about a major or career is a normal developmental process. Many students change their major 1-2 times before settling on a career path. Self-exploration and gathering information about majors and careers are important steps in making a career decision. Difficulties and delays in making a career decision can lead to stress and poor academic performance.
What you can do:
- Normalize the developmental process for the student
- Encourage exploration through course selection, work, volunteering, extracurricular activities, and counseling
- Refer the student to Career Services for occupational information, deciding on a career, internship information, and information about entering the world of work
- Refer the student to CCSD for personal counseling
